I am excited to welcome in a new year filled with potential and unknowns. Instead of setting resolutions this year, I am going to set intentions, as I think there is a wonderful difference between the two. Looking at the definitions of these two words, a resolution is a firm decision to do or not do something; intention means an aim or a plan, and it has another meaning in medicine, which is the healing process of a wound. I never knew this second meaning until I sat down to write the January newsletter. It gives deeper meaning to my idea of intention, as it is not only setting a plan in motion, it also means that the very act of doing so can potentially heal that which has not been done, experienced or lived. What a marvelous way to enter 2017; not with the punitive “I have to give up” resolutions but with a more evolved “I want to embrace or bring forth in my life” intentions. I intend to maintain my integrity in words and deeds, to make my words count and to have absolute integrity in my spoken word. If I don't like something, say it; if I like it, say it; if I know I can or cannot do something, say it so that there is no string of "un-done's" throughout the year. And I intend to cultivate joy and laughter in my life so that lightness of spirit becomes a companion, a dear friend who'll be with me in all the ups and downs that life will bring to me this year. I’d like to take a moment and acknowledge what an amazing 20-year journey it has been since Eat Right 4 Your Type was first published. Little did we know when Peter was writing the book in the attic of our first home that it would have the impact that it did in the publishing world and in peoples’ lives. So much has occurred during this time. The stories people share of their experiences and how Peter’s work and the book influenced their lives constantly moves me. This January marks the 20th Anniversary of Eat Right’s publication, and we are thrilled to have an updated and revised edition to mark the moment. Updated food lists, new research, information on the microbiome... the journey to individualized living continues. On behalf of Peter and the staff of D'Adamo Personalized Nutrition, I wish you all a healthy and happy New Year, and my intention that you live life to the fullest each and every day, fully expressing the uniqueness that you bring to the world. |
